(structural and Functional Complexity at the Tryptophan-1 Locus in Neurospora Crassa.)

چکیده
HE tryptophan-I ( t r yp I ) locus is located in linkage group I11 in Neurospora crassa. TATUM and BONNER (1944) and BEADLE and TATUM (1945) reported tryp-I mutant 10575, which could utilise either indole or tryptophan. AHMAD and CATCHESIDE (1960) brought forward evidence that a new group of five anthranilic acid mutants were allelic to 10575. The present paper describes complementation studies on 21 ultraviolet induced tryp-I mutants and 10575. It also includes studies on the relative positions of the five anthranilic acid mutants with respect to one another and to 10575.

A Genetic Map of the Td Locus of Neurospora Crassa.
URING the past decade, a large number of td mutants have been isolated. These mutants represent alterations of the td locus, which controls the formation of tryptophan synthetase (TSase) in Neurospora crassa. Extensive biochemical and immunological studies have shown that these allelic mutants differ from each other in their ability to form protein (CRM, “crossreacting material”) serologically ...
متن کاملAn enzyme aggregate in the tryptophan pathway of Neurospora crassa.
reactions specifically involved in tryptophan biosynthesis are under the T?ntrol of four genes in Neurospora crassa (AHMAD and CATCHESIDE 1960). The complexity of the gene-enzyme relationships in this pathway was discovered by AHMAD and CATCHESIDE (1960) and AHMAD, KHALIL, KHAN and MOZMADAR (1964) who demonstrated that lesions at one of these genes, tryp-2, could prevent either the accumulation...
متن کاملCross-pathway regulation: tryptophan-mediated control of histidine and arginine biosynthetic enzymes in Neurospora crassa.
In Neurospora crassa, the starvation of tryptophan mutants for tryptophan resulted in the derepression of tryptophan, histidine, and arginine biosynthetic enzymes. This tryptophan-mediated derepression of histidine and arginine biosynthetic enzymes occurred despite the fact that the tryptophan-starved cells had a higher intracellular concentration of histidine and arginine than did nonstarved c...
متن کاملEfficient cloning of genes of Neurospora crassa.
We have constructed a genomic library of Neurospora crassa DNA in a cosmid vector that contains the dominant selectable marker for benomyl resistance. The library is arranged to permit the rapid cloning of Neurospora genes by either sib-selection or colony-hybridization protocols. Detailed procedures for the uses of the library are described. By use of these procedures, a modest number of unrel...
متن کاملMOLECULAR ANALYSIS OF THE SULFUR REGULATORY CIRCUIT OF NEUROSPORA CRASSA
The sulfur regulatory circuit of the filamentous fungus, Neurospora crassa, consists of a set of unlinked structural genes which encode sulfur catabolic and two major regulatory genes which govern their expression. The cys-3 regulatory gene encode a transacting regulatory protein which activates the expression of cys-14 and ars, whereas the other regulatory genes Scon-l and Scon-2 appear to...
